A1 crew started with only three boys David Kanduna (Khay Dee), Tinodiwa (Swae tags) and Joeroy (King Aj) free styling and using their mobile phones to record. In December 2014, they contributed money to record 2 songs Wannabes & School swag only 16 and 17 years of age then. Having gained popularity amongst school students, they felt encouraged and supported to pursue their career. They came up with a name A1CREW263 (A1 which are the first letter and first valid digit respectively and 263 which is a country code) #ProudZimbabweanTeens.
